This is La Morra Barolo. Meaning, La Morra the village, has the right to label the wine "Barolo". There are over 10 villages that call their wine generically Barolo, such as Serralunga, Monforte, Castiglione-Falletto etc. The soil types in this part of Barolo are a blue-grey marl, which is basically manganese mixed with limestone over 13 to 15 millions years old. There is also a very fine sand involved, and this produces something of a miracle when it comes to fine wines. Barolo is famed for its rose petal aromas, licorice, tar, and tea. This is a beauty served at 60F and plenty of air. Decant advised for 2-4 hours prior to drinking.
