Le Pic St Loup is an appellation in the Languedoc area of the South of France. The varietals that are typical of this area are Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre and Carignan. These types of wines tend to be hot in alcohol, but not treacle like, they can be delicate if you allow the air to get at the wine. These wines have aromas of dark fruit such as blackberries and boysenberry. The wines need time with air, so please decant. This wine is a blend of Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault & Carignan Grenache 45-25-20-10. I like this wine today, however it has a few years in the tank. Enjoy it with nice BBQ, and good cheese such as Stilton. Calcaire is the french word for chalk.
