Grande Murailles means the big wall. There is an ancient ecclesiastical monastery in this ancient town which part of is still standing. This vineyard sits next to the wall and is a tiny vineyard that produces perhaps 1500 cases per year and that would be a bumper crop. Bordeaux makes wines on the left bank of the river Gironde and on the right bank of the Dordogne. The famed estates on the right bank such as Cheval Blanc, Petrus,Trotanoy, La Fleur, le Pin, Vieux Château Certan in Pomerol, and Figeac have high percentages of Merlot and Cabernet Franc in them. The reason being is; clay. The left bank is sandy gravel and the right side is mostly clay over limestone. This makes very fragrant, perhaps more alcoholic wines, but super pretty and drinkable earlier on. But I personally believe Bordeaux is meant for keeping a while, and then they are just too good. the vintage of 2015 will go down as a legend in bordeaux speak. A smashing vintage, loaded with fruit and elegance. Bordeaux is the king of wines.
