Sauternes is an area, just like Hollywood is an area in LA. Sauternes is famed for its sweet white wines as a result of the effects of the evening dew that condenses on the grapes in the late summer months and forms a fungus known as Botrytis. The fruit desiccates and leaves only sugar with little juice. These wines are perceived as dessert wines in the states, however they can be drunk with meat dishes such as chicken, vegetables such as asparagus and of course pudding. 2010 is a fabled Bordeaux vintage and will go down as one of the greatest years ever in the history of winemaking in the region. Long warm summer days with little rain made for a bumper crop. This wine is a delicacy. Serve at 45f
